Vegan sandwiches: which of ours are vegan, and how to order them
Three of our sandwiches are vegan as served, a fourth becomes vegan with the non-dairy dressing, and every one comes as a full or a half. They are all warm pita, and the kitchen is vegetarian, so there is never meat or fish on the same board. Below is which sandwich is which, what goes in it, and how to make a vegan lunch out of halves.
Which sandwiches are vegan?
Every dish on our menu carries a leaf. A filled leaf means vegan as served. An outlined leaf means it contains dairy as standard, and a note says what the kitchen replaces. For the sandwiches that looks like this:
- Traditional Falafel, EUR 8.00 full or EUR 4.25 half. Four falafel balls smashed with a hummus spread on warm pita, topped with tomato tahini salad, pickles and fresh mint leaves, with an extra drizzle of lemon tahini sauce. Vegan as served.
- Makali sandwich, EUR 7.50 or EUR 3.75. Fried cauliflower, aubergine and courgette with a hummus spread on warm pita, topped with lemon tahini dressing, pomegranate molasses and pickles. Vegan as served.
- Zaatar sandwich, EUR 6.75 or EUR 3.50. A za’atar and olive oil spread, topped with tomatoes, cucumber, fresh mint and pomegranate molasses. Vegan as served.
- Batata sandwich, EUR 7.50 or EUR 3.75. Fried potatoes on a garlic spread with mixed cabbage slaw and cucumber pickles. Vegan on request: ask for the non-dairy dressing.
- Halloumi sandwich, EUR 8.00 or EUR 4.25. Grilled halloumi on za’atar and olive oil. Vegetarian, because halloumi is a cheese; ask at the counter what the kitchen can put in its place.
The falafel sandwich
The sandwich most people come in for is the Traditional Falafel. Four falafel balls are smashed onto the pita with the hummus, so every bite has falafel and hummus together, and on top go tomato tahini salad, pickles, fresh mint and more lemon tahini sauce. There is nothing from an animal in it, sauces included: it is a falafel sandwich that is vegan as it comes over the counter.
If you want heat, ask for tatbeeleh or harissa on it, which is free. Two extra falafel are EUR 2.50.
A hummus sandwich
There is no plain hummus sandwich on the menu, but hummus goes on the Traditional Falafel and the Makali sandwich as a spread, and the Hummus plate comes with warm pita. If you want a sandwich where the hummus does the work, order the Makali: fried vegetables on a thick layer of hummus.
Full, half, or three halves
Every sandwich comes as a full or a half. Halves are the easiest way to try more than one thing, and The Nabäti Trio, EUR 11.50, is three of them. Take the Traditional Falafel, the Makali and the Zaatar and you have a fully vegan lunch of three different sandwiches. If you pick the Batata, ask for the non-dairy dressing.
Rather have a bowl or a plate? You can also build your own sandwich or bowl from the same ingredients.

Allergens
Every sandwich contains gluten, from the pita. The Traditional Falafel, the Makali and the Zaatar also contain sesame, the Batata contains milk until the dressing is replaced, and the Halloumi contains sesame and milk. Our kitchen handles all of the allergens listed on the menu. Equipment and utensils are shared between dishes, so we cannot guarantee that any dish is completely free of an allergen, even when an ingredient is left out on request. Please tell our staff about any allergy before you order, and they will check the specific dish with the kitchen.
